What is the difference between a bar and an order of lawyers?

There are several differences. They are important and result from a political will since the Liberation to deviate for the professional structures of the orders, councils and other corporations existing during the Vichy period.

A bar is composed of all practicing lawyers with the same court of major instance (there may however be several bars for the same TGI). Art. 21 of the law N ° 71-1130 of the 31 December. 1971 conferred civil status on each bar which can therefore take legal action, possess a patrimony, etc. The bar is directed and represented by a baroness assisted by a council of the order.

An order of lawyers also includes honorary lawyers. No text gives him the civil or moral personality, even if some have acknowledged him without grounds a status of establishment of public utility. We can say that the order is an emanation from the bar which gives it certain missions.

Question. I would like to know whether there is a difference between a bar (lawyers) and an order of lawyers?

Reply. Yes there are not one but some differences. They are important and result from a political will since the Liberation to deviate for the professional structures of the orders, councils and other corporations existing during the Vichy period.
